Next Project.

As i said in my previous post i will be constructing another room box only this one will be quite different to my previous. Whereas in my previous piece i mainly constructed the corner of the room first and then added the accessories in this piece i will construct most of the accessories first and then build the room box to fit the pieces.
I've started off with these two skulls one which has been carved from natural quartz and the other which is carved from horn.

The quartz skull is around 1'' in height while the one in horn is a little over 1'' but has an elongated cranium why i hear you ask! well its all to do with the theme this room is going to be based upon but i don't think these will be the only two skulls that will be part of this room, hopefully as these and other pieces evolve i will post them on my blog. As some of you may know i've always had a long standing fascination with not only human skulls but really any type of animal skull since i was quite young, studying anatomy in art when i was older really just added to this obsession and started off a craze for collecting. I'm sure it won't be too difficult for some of you to guess what type of roombox this will eventually become!
On another note i'd like to welcome my new followers and thank you for following my obsession with miniatures.
I'm also working on another giveaway gift which hopefully should be complete in two or three weeks so keep your eyes peeled for that to.
Have a great week everyone.     Tony.

  6. You did a beautiful job carving the sculls. I have no idea what it would be like to carve quartz. Maybe I think quartz is harder then it actually is. I do know what it is like to cut horn. PHEW!!!!The smell is horrible!

I look forward to seeing your new room take shape.

  7. Ooh, two magnificent pieces!! I love the crystal skull, it's such a classic. And the elongated one reminds me of the one from Indiana Jones. Now, you're either making a roombox connected to archaeology or a roombox for a collector of all sorts of skulls :D Either way I'm sure it's going to be fantastic and I can't wait to see more of your work!

    Regards,
    Illyria

  17. Hi Tony, I am just back from holiday and I'd started to read a lot news of everyones blogs. But you have been busy too ;)! These skulls are awesome work, like the others I can't wait to see in what kind of roombox you'll put these two artworks.

  18. Love the skulls Amazing you've carved it out of crystal. It looks magnificent! Well done, it's a real eye catcher. I'm so with you on the fascination with all sorts of skulls. I used to work in a Natural History Museum and those experiences just rub off somehow :)) On my list is to carve a birds skull out of bone or ivory. Preferably a Dodo's skull because I've done some research on them for an exhibition in the past, and i think they have a certain cuteness about them. But i'm drifting here, meant to say; crazy work & love 'm!!
