Hi everyone, well after a short break im back home and carrying on with making small and unusual treasures for my wunderkammer room.
This piece was another statue i found while metal detecting only i think this one has more religious connections.
When i first dug this up i thought it was the virgin Mary holding Jesus but after closer inspection you can clearly see it is not, its a little rough around the edges but its good enough for the wunderkammer room so to finish it off i made a small shrine for it as im convinced it has some religious connection if you have some indication as to what it may be then id be more than happy to hear.
Have a great week everyone. Tony.
Another great piece! Do you still do metal detecting? Did you find the little figurine somewhere out in a field or was it actually near a church, where a religious person may have accidentally dropped it? Really neat find!
ReplyDeleteHi Iris, Yes i still metal detect i found this figure at the site of an old well the same site as the other figure nowadays there is nothing really left of it its not a deep well more of just a trickle emerging out of the ground but none the less a place of worship many years ago :)
DeleteIt looks lovely in its little shrine. Very much an antique or archaeological find.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sheila :)
DeleteWhat a great find!!! It looks religious, may be a goddess from before Christian times or a votive object. I'll be interested to know more if you learn more about it. It's perfect in the shrine you've made for it.

Thank you Genevieve, Indeed it was a great find and Mrs M was kind enough to send me an image which clarifies that it is actually Jesus which i was over the moon about :)
DeleteI'm glad to know what it is, knowing that it is in fact Jesus is wonderful.

Another treasure Tony !! The statue is of Jesus with his two hands opening his sacred heart. Hugggsss
ReplyDeleteThanks Mrs M i cant thank you enough for sending me that image i couldn't believe that it looks exactly the same, It does make me wonder now who left it there all those years ago something i,ll never find out but it sets the imagination running Many thanks :)
DeleteYou have encased the statuette in the most perfect little shrine. The enclosure frames and highlights the antiquity of figure to a "T"
ReplyDeleteThank you Elizabeth i think its the least it deserved and as you said it highlights it perfectly :)
DeleteI really love this one :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda ;)
DeleteWhat another lucky find and you've displayed it beautifully.
ReplyDeleteIt's exactly what she needed to make her important again! Well done!
ReplyDeleteAnother great item, Tony. I also think it is a little bronze Jesus-Christ pointing at his heart. Although I first thought it was a small roman bronze deity. The patina is great and he little shrine is lovely. It completes the staue instead of detracting from it if it would have been too grand.

You're like a miniature Time Team Tony haha. Amazing find and you've made a lovely display case for it
ReplyDeleteJ'aurais aussi pensé à la Vierge et l'Enfant Jésus, quoi qu'il en soit le sanctuaire que vous avez construit lui va parfaitement, j'adore l'ensemble!
